August Fishing Report
Due to sport and family time in the early part of August and now that we are in lockdown I have not really had the chance to fish lately, which has been frustrating. I managed one day on the Clutha and caught a nice 4.5lb rainbow on an egg fly I had tied up during the school holidays.
There’s nothing better than being out on a river flicking out a line !
So I decided to spend my time in lockdown going through my Simms sling pack and reorganising my jigheads and fly boxes. Over the last couple of months my flies and jigheads have fallen out of my fishing box and all through my fishing bag creating a mess! This has kept me busy for a few days and now I am so excited about getting out fishing again.
I put them back into my lure box compartments based on their weights and sizes. I then made a pile of flies that I need to re-tie and a wish list of flies I need to buy! I also checked my tippet spools, leaders and indicator material to make sure I had enough for the upcoming months. I have also checked my waders for holes and repaired any I have found with aquaseal and a patch if needed.
Also, through lockdown I have been tying some flies, mostly heavy nymphs and streamers for the 1st October opening day. You usually need them then because the rivers can be high and discoloured due to the snow melt.
Dad and I were supposed to be on the coast chasing sea run trout this past weekend but that will be another report now.
Stay safe and be kind and see you out of lockdown!
