DECEMBER FISHING REPORT

DECEMBER FISHING REPORT

December has been a crazy month of weather with so much wind and rain making things very interesting! I have spent quite a few days fishing around Deans bank on the Clutha. On the warmer days I have been catching some nice fish on mayflies and blow fly patterns and sometimes small glister nymphs under the dry fly. When Dad and I have been able to go fishing together in the back country we have used big streams like the Black/Red Sex Dungeion and also Dores Mr Glister streamer to catch fish when the rivers have been high and milky.

The Salmon run in Lake Hawea has been awesome, with lots of Salmon in the 2-3lb range being regularly caught. My friends and I have been catching them on 14 gram Daiwa Chinook lures, we have found the best colors to use are chartreuse/silver and also the blue/silver all available at Southern Wild here in Wanaka where I will be working a couple of days a week over the summer holidays. Feel free to pop in to the shop and chat with me with any fishing related questions you may have!

I look forward to meeting you over the Christmas holidays

Have a Merry Christmas
