JANURARY/FEBRUARY FISHING REPORT

Wow what a summer we are having !
I’ve been lucky to get out most days fishing since I finished school back in mid Dec.
Dad and I have had a few days fishing together on quite a few new rivers, some a long way from home! We did our annual 2 week family camping holiday around the South Island and fished up around Nelson with dad's mates Mike and Nans of Southern Latitude Guides. We had a fantastic day of cicada fishing on a special river we were taken to and it's something I will always remember.
Manic Tackles kiwi cicada has been the best cicada we have used this summer and Mark has a good stock of them in the shop so get in and get some!
We also fished our way down the West Coast stopping in on some cool wee spring creeks and another couple of streams Dad knew of and hadn’t fished for a few years. All the rivers are very low and clear so we needed long fine leaders to fool some fish.
The cicadas we found were huge and fish were happy to take our big ugly cicada patterns most days. Closer, The Clutha has also been fishing really well the past week since I've been home with some good mayfly action at certain times of the day. Parachute Adams in a #12 with small sparkly beaded #14 -16 nymphs have been doing the damage.
The rainbows have been in great condition and fight really hard ! I'm back at school next week and have also got my arm in a plaster from crashing my bike yesterday so the trout will be safe for a bit now :)
